This is an early recording of Byungki Hwang’s Gayageum. It comes with explanations in Korean, English, French, and Japanese.
Gayageum(伽耶琴)was introduced from ancient China to ancient Korea and became a musical instrument of Gaya(伽耶国). Gayageum was introduced to Japan during the Nara period. Gayageum has 12 strings, while Japanese koto has 13 strings. However, the tone is softer than that of Japanese koto.
